3: Middle school

More Poles and Hungarians: Karol Szymanowski (1882-1937) and Ernő Dohnányi (1877-1960).

Both composers were born into lateral branches of their separate country’s nobility, Szymanowski became director of the Warsaw Conservatory; while Dohnányi left his native Hungary and eventually became an American citizen.

Two violin works by Szymanowski: his depiction in music of three Greek myths, and the earlier of his two violin concertos.
