

The two people above are responsible for facilitating the composition and performance of Beethoven’s second set of quartets, Op. 59 1-3.
Ignaz Schuppanzigh was the leader of the first ever professional string quartet [Ignaz Schuppanzigh (violin), Louis Sina (violin), Franz Weiss (viola), and Joseph Link (cello)], an ensemble that was to also give the premiers of the composer’s late quartets.
Count Razumovsky, Russian ambassador to the Hapsburg Court in Vienna, provided both the finance for the commissioning of the works and, as a talented amateur violinist, also -it seems – sometimes played second violin in their performance.
