Two Eastern Europeans who aren’t Slavs: George Enescu from Rumania and Zoltán Kodály from Hungary, and two works by each of them. The first of which comes out of and uses traditional/folk music (Rumanian Rhapsody No. 1; Dances of Galanta), while the second – while still influenced by their native musical traditions – is more dependent on the structures and content of ‘art music’ (Violin Sonata No. 2; Sonata for Unaccompanied Cello).
