Music in the late nineteenth/early twentieth century

Monet’s Haystacks and Munch’s Scream, are they painterly equivalent of much that was happening in music at the end of the nineteenth century?

A musical journey from the outside in and the inside out.

(Sounds and scents turn in the evening air)
