Good stuff on a wet morning. I think I prefer the Fitzenhagen but can’t explain why. Many thanks
To think that I’ve been listening to Tchaikovsky’s Variations for years without realizing there was more than one version. The sleeve note on my old LP mentions nothing about Fitzhagen. Having now heard the composer’s original, I really prefer that. It’s a shame to lose the 8th variation, which leads more naturally into the final pages.
